With 19 post-secondary educational institutions (universities, junior colleges and technical colleges), Ishikawa ranks second only to Kyoto in terms of number per 100 thousand citizens. Because these institutions cover many disciplines including science and technology, medicine, law, economics, foreign languages, social science, art, design, education, etc. they contribute to fostering excellent human resources. Of our high school students who graduated in March 2002, 49.7% went on to study at higher educational institutions such as universities and junior colleges. This figure is higher than the national average by three points, a fact that reflects our citizens' orientation towards higher education.
There are many educational institutions that are engaged in joint studies, and researchers who are familiar with special fields support enterprises' research with their intellectual ability.
